Vinyasa can be translated as “placement in a special or particular way”. For newer and experienced teachers alike, this four-day immersion focuses on the various ways the “placement” of instruction can be refined using the philosophical and ethical guidelines of the Buddhist Noble Eightfold Path as a foundation. Particular emphasis will be placed on vinyasa sequencing and instructing with the breath, but the work as a whole applies to teaching in any style or lineage.
Each day will include meditation and asana practice as well as generous amounts of teaching, physical adjustments and feedback.
We will cover the following aspects of instruction within the four-day structure:
CLEAR VISION - Build upon your own ability to see clearly: read students’ bodies and look for safe and integrated physical and energetic alignment. Gauge the energy of a room and see larger patterns emerge in the class as a whole.
INTELLIGENT DIRECTION - Construct sequences that build cohesively and creatively around themes ranging from peak poses to energetic and philosophical inquiry, and more. Build environments for your students that enhance learning, growth and self-inquiry. Learn to incorporate props effectively in vinyasa format classes. Refine your ability to teach to the cadence and rhythm of the breath.
COMPASSIONATE TOUCH - Learn to be firm, subtle and succinct in your physical assists and adjustments, especially within the structure of a vinyasa class where an adjustment can encompass a whole series of poses, such as assisting an entire Suryanamaskar with one student.
FLYING WISDOM - Develop your own ability to jump and fly in asana, beginning with the foundational transition of downdog to uttanasana. Learn to effectively instruct and build jumping and hand-based transitions into your classes, adding dynamism and lightness. (This section is built directly from Anya’s signature Breakti® Method. FEARLESS VOICE - Speak your truth and design your livelihood around that truth. Explore the subtleties of how you use words and voice in the classroom, and how that voice translates to a larger vision to be expressed in the world. We will spend some time looking at how we present ourselves in the public eye through avenues like social media, and how we can best channel our vision through these mediums.
Prerequisite: Some experience teaching yoga, preferably at least a 200 Hour training. If you do not meet this requirement but still wish to attend, please contact Anya directly.
**Students will be given an assignment prior to the start of the immersion. It is recommended that interested participants register at least two weeks prior to the immersion to allow ample time to complete this assignment.
