Rediscovering Magic: Reframing our World through Practice
Magic does not necessarily require extraordinary circumstances or teachings, but rather the capacity to participate fully in the ordinary and mundane. The simplest experiences and challenges we encounter in practice and everyday life are potent with possibility. Whether attempting to spin a forearm, spin the fibers of breath, or tame the spinning fluctuations of mind, when we are able to do so without grasping or rejecting, magic is inherent.
In this two-hour practice, asana becomes a framework for welcoming the challenge of the ordinary. A few initial detailed physical explorations will then inform a vigorous practice that is generally approachable yet personal enough to offer insights into where we may hold the reigns too tightly and where we slip off the mark. Simple tools of attention and pauses for observation give space to integrate and reframe our perceptions so that an investment into the ordinary takes on the shimmering hues of magic or, put more simply, “waking up”. Time will also be given for seated meditation and contemplation before and after asana.
