Buddhas of Bamiyan
what’s interesting about this… is that the teachings say that like everything else, this is transient, so why hold and grip so hard at not destroying them? i think this could be an opportunity to let go…
yet, it does make me sad… but it is sad when we have to say goodbye… and it is amazing that they are so large and old and will never be seen again.
The Buddas of Bamiyan - or Giant Buddhas - were two 6th century statues of standing buddhas carved into a cliff in central Afghanistan represented classic Gandhara art. The Buddhas of Bamiyan were destroyed in 2001 by the Taliban, citing they were depicted as “idols,” despite protests from around the globe to preserve the ancient statues.
