I died as a mineral and became a plant,
I died as plant and rose to animal,
I died as animal and I was Man.
Why should I fear? When was I less by dying?

-Rumi

…to me the fear of death (and Rumi’s metaphor) points to a stronger and more persistent fear of failure.  every time we fail we feel as if we have died at the helm of what we are aiming for.

it isn’t that simple though, it only means something else could be revealed with the shift that may come in that symbolic dying…  and that shift can be ever more clarifying and can lead us that much closer to ourselves.

chew on that one for a while.  i will do the same.
