the energy of masses vs. me

It’s a bit strange that this practice was just written up again in Vanity Fair Italia as a “new” discipline... about 12 years after it was born (and 7 since it officially retired), but there it is... 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think what this latest iteration has done, more than anything, is to allow me to reflect again on the amazing energy this work accrued and the incredible people I got to build ideas with (this project - one of my most favorite *and grueling* collabs ever with Jude Goergen) as well as other inspiring humans like Raphael Xavier, Ben Goldfarb aka DJ Scribe and others. Also, the many many studios in NYC and beyond who graciously hosted me to share the work… And not to forget the dedicated students I had who fell in love with it as well.

It was a fun idea, it had a lot of soul behind it, but the truth is that my heart (and my body) were not really along for the ride on which it whisked me. It’s interesting to reflect on where it took me and what it allowed me to experience and witness in myself and others..

I still LOVE to dance and to share my love of movement with others. There’s still more to parse and uncover that was in the essence of this work...

The journalist who shared my quotes (mostly) did not alter them with one exception… but overall I am impressed with what she kept, especially after my experiences with the way different publications completely alter what you say to fit their narrative and audience.

Life is funny - the way that things trend and fall away, and the energy of masses vs the intention of one tiny me. ☯️
