Inner Yoga + Biomechanics Series: Foot + Ankle

  • studio SAN 40 Tödistrasse Zürich, ZH, 8002 Switzerland (map)

Our feet are capable of being as dexterous as our hands (28 bones each side including the ankle joint), yet often due to years of immobilizing and ill-fitting shoes as well as lack of variation in surfaces, feet lose their capacity to be mobile and resilient. Add in ankle sprains or other foot and ankle injuries to this formula, and it can create the conditions for feet that do not take weight or rebound against the earth and gravity well.

When feet stop functioning, knees, hips and the lower back attempt to “pick up the slack” and manage our mass and the forces of walking and running. Issues that arise in these locations can often be a direct result of poorly functioning feet and ankles.

Learn to assess and work with the complex structure of your feet, building the intrinsic muscles of the feet, as well as the important flexors and extensors that build the lower leg. Learn to manage your weight through your foot and leg and start to build balance and resilience through your lower limb.
